25 Years of Heatwave
A Legacy of Community, Compassion, and Celebration
For over two decades, Heatwave for SickKids has grown from a small, heartfelt initiative into one of Toronto’s most inspiring community movements. What began as a local volleyball tournament with a mission to give back has evolved into a large-scale charitable tradition that embodies the city’s passion, generosity, and love for fun. Each year, thousands of participants, sponsors, and volunteers come together not only to compete but to connect—sharing stories, laughter, and a collective commitment to supporting children’s health. The event’s impact extends far beyond the court and rink; it has fostered lifelong friendships, inspired corporate partnerships, and raised millions to advance critical care and research at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).
The dedication of the Heatwave team and its participants reflects Toronto’s unwavering community spirit. Whether it’s the summer sun at Ashbridge’s Bay or the crisp chill of Icewave for SickKids, each event brings a sense of unity and joy. The 25th Anniversary celebrations marked a special milestone—honouring the volunteers and donors who made the journey possible, while also spotlighting the next generation of changemakers. The participation of respected media figures such as CTV’s Nick Dixon and CP24’s Jee-Yun Lee and Brandon Gonez amplified the message of hope, teamwork, and compassion.
